Upcoming Town Hall Meeting and Church Conference

On Wednesday, May 1, at 6:30 p.m., we will hold a Town Hall Meeting in the Great Room to discuss a change in our church by-laws, which will allow for absentee voting in future deacon elections. Currently, members must be present in person to vote on deacon elections, but with homebound members and new out-of-state members who consistently participate in our Sunday worship online, support the work of our church financially, and faithfully pray for this community, we need a way for their voices to shape the leadership and direction of Highland Hills.  Therefore the deacons have proposed this change to the by-laws Article I, Sec. 4, Election of Deacons paragraph 2:

Current Wording:
Election of deacons shall be by secret ballot during church conference no later than the second Sunday in November. Ushers shall distribute ballots to members (including those serving in the nursery or other areas of the church), collect the same, and provide them to the Deacon Nominating Committee for counting and safekeeping. The Deacon Nominating Committee shall count the ballots and record the results.

Proposed Change:
Election of Deacons shall be held no later than the second Sunday in November and shall be by secret ballot. Each ballot shall bear the names of the final Deacon nominees up for election and shall be distributed to each member of the church no later than 10 days prior to the scheduled election. The church, through the Deacon Nominating Committee, will collect and count the ballots from the members, and record the results.

The church will hold a Church Conference in the worship service on Sunday, May 5, to vote on the by-laws change.
